Oversea Restaurant | Jalan Seenivasagam | Ipoh

I recently visited this popular Chinese restaurant in Ipoh and had an enjoyable dining experience. The roast pork and char siew were absolute highlights - perfectly cooked with just the right balance of fat and meat. All the other dishes were delicious too! However, the service was a bit lacking, especially considering the restaurant wasn't crowded. Would still recommend for the food alone, but hopefully, they'll work on improving their service.

We had a private room and the service was top class with 1 waitress attending to us throughout the meal. 2 items stood out for me. The Char Siew and the Jumbo Prawns in Special sauce. All the other Items we ordered were very good. Perhaps one of the best in Malaysia. The steamed fish was perfectly done and very fresh. Their signature beancurd was melt in your mouth and superbly paired with winter Melon. The sharks fin with crab meat brought back fond memories of Malaysian Chinese cuisine 4 decades back. Not to mention their roast pork and London Roast duck totally set the stage for the entire dinner. Recommended to me by a local prominent businessman, you would be short changed if you had not eaten here. I see some complaints about the pricing. I guess you need to be realistic between the service of St Regis versus Hotel 81.

A simple home cooked meal, executed with exceptional skill. The balance of sweetness and saltiness was spot on. The char siew was par excellence,its fat-to-meat ratio delivered a succulent, juicy bite every time. The harm yee far lam paired beautifully with the rice, adding a deep, savory richness. The sam wong tan was remarkably smooth, gliding effortlessly down the throat. The sar po lamb belly stood out as something extraordinary, you don’t get the usual strong mutton scent, making it perfectly palatable. Even the spinach impressed, bathed in a rich, flavourful stock. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, proving once again that the restaurant truly lives up to its reputation for crafting simple yet incredibly tasty dishes.

The food was great overall, however, I have one complaint. I am not happy with the waiter who did not bother to alert us about the price of the fish. It cost us RM 420 for the Bamboo fish alone. I do not deny that it was my fault for checking the price with the waiter. The least he could do is alert me. Kinda felt it was a rip-off. Just be careful when u order seafood, and always check the price beforehand .

I was lucky that I could order just before they closed. They didn't have the signature platter, so I went with the sweet and sour pork, which was delicious! The noodles were also very tasty. I would definitely go back again. The staff, especially the aunties, were kind and very polite. However, the bathrooms could be improved because they were old and not well-maintained.
